Diagnostic Peripheral Joint Injections
Examples of peripheral joints include the shoulders, hips, and knees. Pain in peripheral joints may be due to a joint problem, or it may be referred pain stemming from a nearby structure. At times, a diagnostic joint injection is helpful in determining the exact location of the pathology. A diagnostic injection is performed by injecting a medication into the joint to see if symptoms improve, thereby giving diagnostic information.
